What is TRTP?
TRTP™ is short for The Richards Trauma Process. TRTP™ is a very simple yet comprehensive form of therapy resolves extreme trauma & trauma related issues such as depression, anxiety, phobias, sleep issues, anger issues, relationship issues, and so much more.
TRTP™ includes components of mindfulness, Gestalt therapy, Emotion-Focused therapy, Choice therapy, Ego-state therapy, Cognitive therapy, Parts therapy, Dream Rehearsal therapy and others.
TRTP™ makes use of deep imagination to deal with trauma where it is stored - in the body and in the subconscious.
TRTP™ is in alignment with the two requirements stated by noted trauma experts (Levine, Van Der Kolk) that for trauma to be resolved:
- The person must (somehow) be moved to an empowered position in regards to the trauma
- The body must (somehow) know that the event / events are over
Scientific research reveals that the wishes, desires and aspirations of our creative conscious minds only control cognitive behaviour 5% of the time. Our subconscious mind is in control 95% of the time, which is often why we find ourselves self-sabotaging our attempts at healing. (Bruce Lipton)
TRTP™ addresses the negative unconscious core beliefs stored in the subconscious, which dictate our thought patterns, emotions and behaviours. This is done at the beginning of the process, to empower the client and avoid self-sabotage during the following therapy.
TRTP™ then takes the emotional charge from the past, which moves the client to a place of empowerment in relation to the trauma.
As deep imagination is used, the therapist can then speak directly to the body and the unconscious (where the trauma is stored).
As the memory of the trauma is placed firmly in the past, the client is shifted from a fight/flight/freeze state into an empowered, self-regulated state.
The client moves from their state of fight/flight/freeze - “I’m not safe!” to “It’s over, I’m safe now.” The sympathetic nervous system is calmed and the symptoms decrease.
TRTP™ does not merely address just the symptoms of the trauma but deals with the underlying cause of the problem, removing the emotional charge from the past and returning the client to a state of empowerment.
TRTP is generally completed within 3 sessions, depending on how much we have to work through. The sessions are spaced a week apart each, I generally allow 2 hours for each appointment.
It’s best to book the appointments on days where you have some free time afterwards, to allow the session to integrate. To maximise results, its also best to avoid making appointments on days where you have multiple commitments, or on days you find stressful.
If you are not able to make an in person session due to our location, TRTP is just as effective via zoom, in fact most of our sessions at MSH are facilitated via zoom.
The cost of TRTP covers 6 hours face to face time, either in person or via zoom, and 1-2 hours preparation outside of sessions. With most clients we are able to work on anything distressing or anything thats been holding you back within the 6 hours we have scheduled together. On the odd occasion that we require a session or two extra, time is charged at $100 per hour for any additional work, with concessions made for clients accessing the sliding scale.
Before our first session
A week before our first session you will be sent out a set of forms, the main set being a brief list of distressing events in your life from birth to present time, written as plainly as possible, for example,'hit by bully, aged 6, bully and school friends present', or 'teased by parent about appearance, ages 5-20, mother, family and friends present'. As well as a 'to' and 'from' list, where you are to list behaviours you are looking to change and what behaviours you would like to have instead, for example, from: 'trouble communicating with loved ones' to: 'communicating with ease', or from: 'anxious in social settings' to: 'feeling comfortable meeting new people and spending time in groups'.
Session 1 is aimed at addressing your negative unconscious core beliefs. You are taken through a gentle meditation which is recorded and sent to you.
After the first session you will need to listen to the recording every day for a week, this will ensure you are in an empowered position for the second session where we address your trauma. The recording is a personalised, powerful tool that can be used after we have finished our sessions together, it can be used to pull yourself out of a bad mood, rough days, or just days where you need to feel empowered!
Session 2 is aimed at addressing your trauma, starting from birth. Rich imagining is used to access the trauma where it is stored- in the subconscious and the body.
Session 3 is aimed at wrapping up the work we have done so far, going over the outcomes and working on any outstanding issues if there is anything left over. Clients that commit to the process and throw themselves into the process whole heartedly, find that everything on those 'to' and 'from' lists change. The final session also features a short meditation where we look into the future.
